Star gazers around the region are in for a treat as Australia’s only portable observatory comes to Jamestown and Whyalla this weekend.
The Southern Cross Outreach Observatory Project is bringing the experience to Memorial Park, Jamestown tomorrow and Jubilee Park, Whyalla on Sunday.
Future astronomers will get to experience the wonders of the sky through telescopes at the mobile astronomical observatory.
Director of the program, Dr Muhammad Hussain says accessability and opportunities for regional areas are key.
“Just to spread the knowledge of astronomy in communities, that’s the main thing,” he said.
“Free of course so that people are encouraged to use the observatory and look at the stars and planets.”
The free program is aimed at getting kids into astronomy, however everyone is welcome.
