Wakefield Regional Council has created a 55km new trail that will link-up two of regional SA’s best trails - ‘Walk the Yorke and The Riesling Trail.’

“The Copper Trail’ has been given the go-ahead after receiving a grant of approximately $40,000.

Thanks to the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing and Council who also contributed another $14,000 to complete the final stage of the project.

Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid believes the trail has the potential to bring economic benefits to the region, creating an optional multi-day adventure for walkers and cyclists.

Linking these already established trails has the potential to draw more tourists to surrounding towns.

Mr Reid said, “Our community loves its walking trails and once The Copper Trail is constructed, people will be able to access the wineries of Clare or the beaches of Yorke, with our region as the gateway and the closest starting point from Adelaide.”

“The Copper Trail will provide an excellent alternative to walking around town footpaths and ovals; one that is free, great for all ages and with the added bonus of harnessing local flora and fauna.”

The project is expected to be completed April of 2020.
