This weekend Whyalla will be filled with colour, glitter and music with the city’s second Gender and Sexuality Pride March taking place on Saturday.
The Pride March which is hosted by the local LGBTIQA+ group, aims to celebrate diversity among young people in the community and follows the success of the city’s pride event which took place in 2018.
Courtney Beer of headspace said, “There are no other events currently in the community that provide a platform for diversity among the rainbow community to be celebrated. It’s important for us to do this event to show younger LGBTIQA+ young people that there are safe places in our community and headspace is a place they can access for support if they would like to.”
This year’s event is expected to attract 120 attendees with entertainment and activities kicking off at 1pm prior to the main event; The Pride March.
Activities will commence at headspace Whyalla at 1pm with the march kicking off at 2.30pm and follow last year’s route continuing down Ian street, turning right on McDouall Stuart Avenue and then down Nicolson avenue to finish up back at headspace.
