South Australia's big battery Hornsdale Power Reserve is being expanded by 50 per cent in an effort to help the state transition to more renewable power sources.
The expansion project will increase the battery from 100 megawatts to 150 megawatts, providing financial relief for consumers, while significantly reducing power bills.
The project will receive $50 million from the federal government's green bank, $8 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and $3 million from the SA government.
The Hornsdale Power Reserve is already the world's biggest battery, becoming operational in 2017 and saving consumers an estimated $50 million its first year of operation alone.
