The RAA have reported a surge in regional road fatalities, in what has been quoted as ‘the worst start to a year since 2013’ according to police records.
In the Spencer Gulf has seen multiple fatalities in 2020, with the most recent occurring on Horrocks Highway on March 12th, another occurred March 10th in Eudunda as well as on the Yorke Peninsula in Clinton earlier in the year.
There had been a tragic spike in fatalities on regional roads, with 26 deaths to date compared to 13 during the same time last year.
RAA Senior Manager Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said, “This is a timely reminder for motorists to be focused on the task of driving.”
Mr Mountain said national figures show almost half of fatal regional crashes are single vehicle run-offs.
“All road users can play their part by being safe and not contributing to the number of lives wasted in road crashes.’’
