The Environment Protection Authority is prosecuting Nyrstar Port Pirie for what has been quoted as ‘causing serious environmental harm’.
Between January 31st and the 3rd February in 2019 the complaint claims, “The company polluted the environment by discharging, or failing to prevent the discharge of, approximately 700 litres of sulphuric acid from its site into First Creek at Port Pirie.”
Causing potential environmental harm by polluting the environment and creating damaging conditions for fish, animals and plant life in the creek.
The matter will be heard in the Environment, Resources and Development Court of South Australia at a later date.
